Convolute and Confluent Family of Fiction Genres

Convolute and Confluent Family of Fiction Genres

KRS Murthy

We may call it extreme fiction, contorted fiction, fiction in a knot, and other names that I will suggest and discuss in different FB posts. The purpose of this fiction form or a family of fiction is to defy a straight-line presentation of the fiction. The ultimate purpose is not simply to use techniques of convoluted presentation, and really to achieve the literary result in readers, critics and analytical experts that would not be optimally possible in the fiction that all in literature are currently familiar.
Convolution may have many dimensions. It is easier to give examples first, and then summarize to make the point of the distinction of this fiction form and family.
Time Convolution
This is convoluting past, present and future. Characters from past and present. are brought into the fiction, with added futuristic and imaginary characters that do not or did not exist. Famous and infamous personalities from history, characters from mythology are inducted into the chosen literary genre, for example, a story, along with imaginary characters. Here are some suggestions:
1. Think about Shakespeare, Veda Vyasa, Valmiki, and current authors networking, debating and discussing, and even co-creating literature with imaginary literary greats that fictitiously may be born in the future.
2. We could also mix and match poets, short story writers, novelists, humorists, dramatists, and even non-fiction writers.
3. It is OK to mix and match world leaders, military leaders, founders and leaders of different religions, even common people, artists, musicians, sports heroes, scientists, technologists, philosophers, dancers, sculptors, social and community leaders. You probably get the idea!
4. It is OK to go crazy in the mix and match enthusiasm. The desired result would be to create a flow of the fiction that would not be possible if we limited to only those live now or lived in the past.
5. You are welcome to have Einstein, Newton, Indian Mathematician Ramanujan reborn as a sports hero, a dancer, a sculptor or a painter.
6. You may go back to induct Chinese, Japanese, British, European, Greek, Egyptian, American or Indian greats from both history and mythology.
A confluence of Multiple Literary Genres and Languages
You can mix and match in your choice of sequences different literary genres. Here are are some examples:
1. Poetry has many formats and form factors. This is very diverse when you look at many languages in the world. Indian poetry literature in Sanskrit, have many formats based on sounds and syllables, a number of lines in stanza, rhymes, and rhythms. Indian languages also have similar form factors, even though each language in India has additional unique form and formats over and above Sanskrit.
2. Different languages have their own uniqueness in form and format, leveraging and depending on the character set, sounds, and spoken versions. Chinese would be very different and distinct from Arabic, Persian, Urdu, and Hebrew. African languages would be unique in poetry form and format.
3. Germanic and Latin based languages, greek and their dialects, Eastern European languages are blessed with uniqueness as well.
4. Many aboriginal and native languages, with and without scripts have poetry and different literary genres with distinct forms and formats.
5. Similar to poetry, one could induct and use short stories, novels, dramas, humor and other genres of the world mixed and matched in creating this form of new fiction.
6. It is imperative and important to note that not only different literary genres, and also different languages could e mixed, sequenced and matched as needed.
7. Appropriate footnotes, endnotes, preludes, addendums, glossaries, the index could be supplemented to help the readers to navigate and comprehend.
Figures, Diagrams, Tables, Charts, Photos, and Videos
The written text in already mixed and matched new fiction could further be supplemented with numbers, figures, diagrams, tables, charts, graphs, photos, and videos.
I will add additional techniques to embellish this new fiction-family in my future postings. This is only the beginning of my writing. Look for my future postings.
